If you’re anything like us, by summer we’re yearning for lightweight, breathable products that will keep us glowy and hydrated without being heavy, shiny, or just straight up oily. We’re about a clean, luminescent, healthy glow—not looking like a glowstick. And while so many clean beauty products can bring the oil without much else, we like to think that here at RMS Beauty, we’re able to bring the heat with a whole lot of nourishment.

So we put together our definitive guide for Memorial Day weekend; one that’ll help you fake and enhance that start-to-summer glow while ensuring you’re using high-quality, natural, clean ingredients that do your skin so much good while looking flawless too.

Summer Beauty Tips

• Prep
  Prepping your skin before a day at the beach or strolling the boardwalk is crucial to a quality makeup look. Prep in this case means a clean, smooth base. We’ll get more into what kind of product that actually means in a minute, but in the meantime, it’s important to keep in mind that even if you’re just slathering on some sunscreen or throwing on a bit of tinted moisturizer, you don’t want to catch any flakes or dry patches—or potentially irritate already potentially irritated skin (a little too much sun, anyone?). So moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

• SPF, Always
  Sun protection is always a good idea, no matter the season. But during summer especially it’s positively crucial that you apply sunscreen an hour before you leave the house (whenever possible…we know it can be hard sometimes) and then every few hours thereafter. Zinc sunscreen doesn't need time to sink in since it works immediately to deflect rays, but applying your sunscreen before you get outside ensure a better, more even application. 
  
  Anything above SPF 30 is great, and a mineral-based sunscreen with Zinc Oxide is even better. Mineral Zinc is clean and natural, and blocks the sun’s harmful rays without potentially toxic chemicals. It works by sitting on top of the skin, so you’re not absorbing as much.

• Powder is Your Friend
  Rarely do people mention using a powder when heading to the beach or popping out for a summer’s day, but we do. That’s because powders absorb excess oil and moisture, helping to keep your look shine-free while still staying dewy. Now don’t get us wrong, you don’t want to cake on the powder, you just want to blot it on the parts that get the most oily—your t-zone (forehead and chin) and edges of your nose, for example.
  
  You can pick any kind of powder you like, but we’re fans of translucent ones that don’t change your look all that much. And Rose-Marie, our founder and a master makeup artist, likes to use the puff that comes with powders. She says it deposits just the right amount of powder, and then you can buff it out with a brush.

• Dewy, Never Heavy
  Obviously heavy products are never the vibe in summer. Light, dewy looks are what we’re going for, and you can get that with skin-loving, oil-or-cream-based products, a flick of mascara, and pops of color.
