RMS Beauty Living Luminizer
Move over contouring – strobing is here! This new, lighter sculpting method for goddess-like bone structure is the perfect alternative for summer months when caking our faces with thick, dark makeup is less than appealing.
Strobing follows the same basic principals as contouring, but in reverse, bringing out the areas where the light might naturally catch your high cheekbones, nose and pouty lips and it is all the rage with celebrity makeup artists all over the world. Ditch that Kardashian hollowing and instead, take a leaf out of Miranda Kerr and Rosie Huntington Whitely’s books for a healthy and natural looking, low maintenance glow.
Follow our mini makeover master-class to slim, enhance and define with illuminating highlighters to achieve your dream bone structure with a radiant, dewy finish.
As with all great makeup looks, you will want to start with a well-hydrated base, so slather on your favourite moisturizer (we love Rose Fresh Coconut by Tiana) and leave to absorb for 5 minutes.
Apply a primer for long lasting strobing effects, foundation, blusher and/or concealer as usual.
Grab an illuminator product, like Living Luminizer by RMS beauty, and get to work on that gorgeous glow. Strobing is so easy! Dab a small amount of highlighter on a clean finger or brush and get ready to dab on the areas of your face that are the ‘highest’: cheekbones, brow bones, nose bridge, chin and cupids bow.
For accurate cheekbone precision, work your strobing from the cheekbone point under the pupil of your eye and tap out and up towards your temples and continue up onto the outer corners of your brow bone. Blend gently until you are left with a gorgeous, natural glow.
Strobing (when done right) can actually slim down your nose, if you so desire! Tap a small amount of highlighter down the bridge of your nose, but skip the tip. You can also bring this right up inbetween your eyebrows, although if your are prone to an oily t-zone, it might be better to skip that.
For mega-pouty lips, light up that cupid’s bow! Dab a tiny amount at the point where your filtrum meets your top lip. You may want to add a lip liner similar to your natural lip colour after this just to re-define your lip line, incase the highlighter goes over the edge a little.
Dot a small patch onto the centre of your chin (where it sticks out the most) and blend out into your jaw-line. Finish with a light dusting of transluscent powder to fix and mattify the rest of your face, making those strobing areas really pop!
And strobing doesn’t stop there! You can also use this technique down the centre of your shins for an automatic leg-extender – the perfect accompaniment to your summer wardrobe.
